Ōtara’s Last Stance Muay Thai/Kickboxing Gym is home to the NZ Black Gloves, a group of young, aspiring fighters hoping to make it to the IFMA World Youth Muay Thai Championships in Malaysia this August.
Youth worker and gym owner Tutavake Petero says the team have organised a number of small fundraisers to help get the team to the big comp.
“Socials, batons up – you know the old island style [fundraisers], bonuses,” Petero laughs.
“Whatever it takes, anything to get our kids overseas and do what they do best.”
