One Love Festival has become one of Aotearoa’s summer staples, with people travelling from all over the world to see their favourite acts gracing the stage at the Tauranga Domain.
Now, One Love Organiser Pato Alvarez is giving all of those in lockdown a chance to experience the festival from their own bubbles.
Today the One Love Garage Project will be launched, a series of live, online shows featuring some local and international talents from the festival. The best part – the shows are free.
In an interview with the Bay of Plenty Times, Alvarez says his team managed to organise the project in only a few days.
“As soon as we put the word out to some friends of the One Love Festival, New Zealand and some international acts were super keen to be involved.”
The premium line-up includes previous One Love acts Stan Walker, Che Fu and Three Houses Down + General Fiyah, with international acts Kolohe Kai, Josh Wawa and Common Kings rounding out the line-up. Alvarez says, “This is not a money maker for us or the artists.”
“Everyone involved is doing this to give back to the community in a time of need.”
Fans will get to interact with their favourite artists, who will be taking requests, answering fan questions and playing some of their popular tracks.
Alvarez hopes the project will bring some enjoyment to those in lockdown. “Isolation can be pretty scary and lonely for some people, so we wanted to create this series to restore as much normality as possible. Music brings people together and there is no better time than right now to feel connected with some of your favourite artists.”
The project will be free to stream via the One Love Festival Facebook page and kicks off at 7pm.
