Auckland city councillors and local board members gathered in Glen Innes on Tuesday for the unveiling of a road named after the late Reverend Elder Leiite Setefano Emeritus, QSM.
Mrs Lealofi Setefano together with family and members of the Pasifika community gathered for the special ceremony to acknowledge the work of the late Minister for his pastoral care at Tamaki PIPC as well as his advocacy work for the Tamaki, Glen Innes and Panmure community in the areas of education, housing and welfare.
The special ceremony was held on the sixth anniversary since the passing of Rev Setefano who was a Minister for more than 46 years, 36 of which were spent at Tamaki PIPC.
Councillor Josephine Bartley took to social media and shared the significance of the event to mark Rev Setefano’s legacy.
“How significant it is to have a road named after you in an area that you lived and worked for so many years in a location where the road names traditionally reflect war time, colonial figures and environmental characteristics but to now also reflect our modern day local people who have contributed to the identity of an area.”
Minister for Tamaki PIPC Reverend Elama Maea led the blessing of the new road known as Leiite Setefano Way in Panmure.
