New armed response teams spark concerns for community
A public rally is being held by a group concerned about the launch of three Armed Response Teams in South Auckland, Waikato and Canterbury. As part of a six month trial, these specialist police units will operate seven days a week using armed SUV vehicles. Police commissioner Mike Bush made the announcement last week. He says an increase in firearm incidents since the Christchurch attacks is one of the main reasons for the units. But some community leaders fear violence will only increase.
