Scammers: Phishing for prey in Pacific communities

Have you or someone you know been a victim of a scam? If so, you aren’t alone. They don’t discriminate on who they prey on, and sometimes those very scammers can be people you love and trust – what one Tongan mother of two had to learn the hard way when she was scammed two years by a friend. So what is a scam? How can you spot one? And what should you do if you think you might be in one? Here’s Moana Makapelu Lee with this story.

If you or someone you know might be caught in a scam, contact the Commerce Commission, Financial Markets Authority (FMA) or the Police. Otherwise you can check out Scamwatch and Netsafe online.
