The Guerrilla Collection is excited to announce the return of its Poetry + Spoken Word competition for 2022, but submissions are closing soon.

Guerrilla Collection organiser and Black Grace dancer Rodney Tyrell says, “we want to provide an opportunity and encourage our Pasifika youth to start that journey on finding what makes them unique, and to celebrate it through an artistic outlet.”

The competition is open to Young Pasifika Creatives aged 16 to 21.

To enter, participants must write or record a 1 – 2-minute-long poem or spoken word based on this year’s theme of Identity:

Identity can reflect or intersect with many things: culture, whānau, gender, and religion. But what makes us unique and informs our own personal identity?

Poems must be original and unpublished and must be submitted with a typed-up copy.

Submissions can be sent to [email protected] with full name of participant, date of birth, school and year level or occupation, contact phone number and postal address.

The winner of the competition will be awarded an NZD$500 Prezzy Card, a Guerrilla Collection goodie bag, and the opportunity to work with a mentor to develop their work.

The winning submission will also be given to the dancers of Black Grace to develop into a dance film and published on the Guerrilla Collection website and Instagram.

All entries must be received by midnight 15th June 2022. Entries received after this date cannot be accepted
