The Pasifika Dental Association (PDA) was officially launched in Auckland at the New Zealand Dental Association. Etu Pasifika Christchurch Board Director and PMA Member, Dr Tule Misa, has been named as the President.
Dr. Misa says she looks forward to helping promote the importance of oral health.
She adds that the launch of the PDA is a significant piece of work that will contribute to oral health outcomes for Pacific families while also encouraging more people to take up dentistry.
“The association exists to empower people as well as taking the lead regarding oral health of our Pacific families. A priority for us is to also encourage young people to take up dentistry and facilitate spaces where we can advocate for our people to improve access to dental care.

She further emphasises the key purposes for the association.
“Our aim is to also provide a space for connection for our Pasifika dental professionals to meet, engage and develop together. Partnerships is another important aspect of our work by establishing links with Pasifika dental colleagues and other organisations.”
The Pasifika Medical Association Membership (PMAM) was a sponsor for the launch.
Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) President, Dr Kiki Maoate says the launch of PDA is significant and will provide opportunities to promote oral health within Pacific communities.
“As an organisation we support their vision and also acknowledge the leadership of Dr Misa in this space. She’s a respected colleague within the PMA family and we congratulate her on the appointment as President for the association.”
