Premier of Niue Dalton Tagelagi leads the tributes from Pacific Island nations as the people of Niue have learned of the passing today of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Premier Tagelagi says, “The passing of a most extraordinary woman who reigned for over 70 years. Her faithfulness to her duties and dedication to her people was the reflection of a most remarkable leader.”
The new King Charles becomes Niue’s new Head of State immediately on the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Prime Minister of the Cook Islands Mark Brown has also added his tribute.
“All her people of the Cook Islands will mourn the passing of our Queen and will miss her greatly. Her Majesty leaves behind an enormous legacy of dedicated service to her subjects including ourselves, around the world.”
Fiji Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama took to social media with a message of condolence with this message. “ Fijian hearts are heavy this morning as we bid farewell to her Majesty Queen Elizabethe II. We will always treasure the joy of her visits to Fiji along with every moment that her grace, courage and wisdom were a comfort and inspiration to our people, even a world away.”
The Kiingitaga have released a heartfelt message in honour of the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
“Kiingi Tuheitia and Makau Ariki Atawhai send their aroha and respect to the Royal Family now gathering in Balmoral. “The Whare Ariki of Te Wherowhero send their aroha at this time to the Royal House of Windsor. We pray for the late Queen and for King Charles.”
Flags will also fly at half mast and a memorial service will be held in due course.
