“To be granted citizenship is not something you take lightly”
Ireland and Connacht midfielder Bundee Aki has officially been awarded with his Irish citizenship after moving to the country ten years ago.
Bundee was awarded his citizenship in a ceremony at the Dublin Convention Centre.
Of Samoan heritage and born and raised in New Zealand, Aki was formidable for the Chiefs in their 2013 winning season and also represented Counties Manuka well in the ITM Cup.
With 57 caps to his name for Ireland, Aki who resides in Galway also represented the British and Irish Lions on the 2021 tour of South Africa and has become a household name in Irish rugby.
“I’ve enjoyed my time in Ireland and embraced the people and the people have embraced me and my family as well” Aki said when speaking to Irish local media.
“I’ve been here for a very long time. I’ve enjoyed my time here in Ireland”.
