They’re dubbed as the most electrifying rap group in the country, and for this year’s NZ Music Month, Onehunga rap group SWIDT are sparking things up yet again .

The group are making their own spin for this year’s music month, calling it “SWIDT Music Month”.

In May, the group will release a song/merch/video or any form of creative and musical art on their platforms on every second day for the whole month.

The initiative kicked off last week, with the group dropping their latest track “Protocols”. The song discusses the rituals and traditions passed down in Pasifika families and how it’s received differently through the generations and youth of today.

“From a fan and artist perspective not too much happens aye” said group rap artist SPYCC when referring to NZ Music Month over the past years.

“I don’t see that much investment in it. Most of the time it feels like it’s tokenistic. So in true SWIDT fashion, now it’s SWIDT music month”.

The group are also hoping that the month will celebrate the importance of musicianship in not just their group, but artists of different genres across the country.

“The intention behind all this music we’ve been creating is none other than for the love of music” SPYCC added.

“We don’t care about no streams or radio plays. It’s SWIDT music month, get familiar with it.”
