Attorney-General David Parker has announced the appointment of the new Principal Youth Court Judge in New Zealand
Judge Ida Malosi continues to make great strides as she becomes the first Pasifika woman appointed Principal Youth Court Judge in New Zealand. In 2002 Judge Malosi was appointed the country’s first ever Pasifika woman District Court Judge appointed to Family Court.
The Victoria University of Wellington alumni spent most of her career in South Auckland’s Family and Youth Courts, having established Pasifika Youth Courts in Mangere (2010) and Avondale (2011).
Born and raised in Invercargill, Judge Malosi is a founding partner of an all-Māori and Pasifika women’s law firm – King Alofivae Malosi, that specialise in family law and youth justice based in South Auckland.
Judge Malosi’s achievements are not limited to just New Zealand, serving as Samoa’s first female Supreme Court Judge in 2013 and established the Family Court and the Family Violence Court during her time there.
Judge Malosi will take her seat as Principal Youth Court Judge in November after Judge John Walker retires, who has held the role since 2016.
