Organised by Tongan community leaders, a talanoa was hosted in Māngere over the weekend to discuss on-going gang tensions, and the impact on families. Many of the participants agreed with the reasons why youth were joining gangs.
Tongan community leader Pakilau o Aotearoa Manase Lua says, “the number one thread running through all the commentary tonight…the problems all stem from home, it stems from the families.”
“Not enough love, not enough time and the lack of hope and connection for our kids.”
