Te Kiwa Nui Festival returns to Porirua next month showing off the richness of Pacific and Māori cultures.
The festival formerly known as Polyfest will celebrate its 54th year bringing together schools from the Wellington North region (from Newlands to Pukerua Bay).
With over 2100 student performers confirmed from 21 primary, intermediate, and college schools representing 39 Pacific and Māori cultural groups, this year’s festival will feature the largest number of student performers to date.
Board Chair Lealamanu’a Aiga Caroline Mareko is excited to have seen all the successes that students have attained from the festival both on and off the stage.
Noting that the education and cultural currency that the young people receive in performing helps their development and growth to become young leaders.
Returning to Porirua’s own Te Rauparaha Arena on the 7th & 9th August and will undoubtedly sell out with more than 8000 attendees expected to support all the student performers.
The festival aims to create an environment for them to be confident in their own culture and identity, fostering expression through performance and carrying on the traditions that have come before to strengthen language, song and dance from all the cultures they present.
