Almost two years ago Junior Tofa arrived from Samoa with his family to visit his sick grandfather. Then Covid struck, and the family were stuck in New Zealand. It was during last year when they received the devastating news: Junior was sick with a deadly illness — rheumatic heart disease.
After the story aired on Tagata Pasifika in October, the community generously donated thousands of dollars so Junior could have his surgery. Marama T-Pole catches up with the Tofa family to see how Junior is doing now.
The Tofa family have also created a song to thank the community. Watch ‘Fa’afetai i le Atua’ here.
