Samoan rugby player Sene Naoupu is “still processing” her experience after serving the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge their first pints of Guinness in Ireland this week.
The royal couple ended the first day of their Royal Tour of Ireland on Tuesday by sharing a toast with the Ireland women’s rugby union star at the Guinness Storehouse’s Gravity Bar in Dublin.
Sene Naoupu represented Ireland, female athletes, Irish National rugby players and Guinness.
“It was an absolute privilege to join the team at Guinness and toast The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit,” Naoupu posted to Instagram following the special occasion.
“Guinness has been a long-time supporter of Irish Rugby and is playing a valuable part in growing visibility of women’s rugby, so it was a pleasure to be invited last night to represent Ireland, rugby and Guinness. Sláinte, manuia, cheers!”
The Duke and Duchess enjoyed a few sips of the world-famous stout with Naoupu before Prince William took to the stage to give a speech to his fellow guests. He acknowledged the special relationship between England and Ireland, on what is the royal couple’s first official visit to Ireland, before closing out the evening with a final toast: “And now with Sene having poured me this perfect pint, I think it only right that I draw to a close. Slainte.”
