An exciting new lineup of designers taking the next wave of New Zealand fashion to new heights were on display at the Viva Next Gen fashion show as part of New Zealand Fashion Week, held in Auckland.
Pasifika designers featured as part of six emerging designers who showcased their pieces to their peers, buyers, consumers and the elite of the fashion world.
Niuean designer, Phillip Heketoa revealed his latest pieces under his label LIPO and it was evident in his collection, his sense of style with a flair for the Pacific.
“I am excited about everything because there is something new to learn, understand and grow from. I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved so far; this isn’t it for me. Feeling grounded in my vision and what I wanted to share. Polynesian Lipo style.
“At the end of every and any moment of success, whatever that may be, I always remind myself and ponder on how grateful, thankful and blessed I am,” he says.
Also showcasing their work was Samoan designer Sandra Tupu with her label Flying Fox Clothing. Cook Island designer Maggie Anitelea creator of MAKKE and Tongan designer John Tanuvasa of OHN Clothing have also featured during NZ fashion week.
The show aligned with NZFW’s aim to include excellence in innovation, cultural identity, inclusivity, digital technologies and connectivity, and sustainability.
Phillip’s work will also feature at the Pacific Fashion Fusion Show.
