Pacific artists recognised at annual Creative NZ Awards
The 2025 Arts Pasifika Awards brought together artists, leaders and communities to celebrate the depth and diversity of Pacific creativity in Aotearoa. Held at Te Papa in Wellington, the ceremony honoured eight recipients whose work continues to shape the Pacific arts landscape – from theatre and music to design, film and cultural heritage.
Among those recognised were acclaimed actor and director Anapela Polataivao ONZM, The Coconet TV / Tikilounge Productions, and jewellery artist Sofia Tekela-Smith, alongside emerging talents and cultural champions whose contributions strengthen the legacy of Pacific storytelling and innovation.
The evening was a vibrant celebration of identity, connection and excellence – a reminder that Pacific art continues to inspire generations and communities across Aotearoa and the world.
