The Pacific Music Awards (PMAs) have announced the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso.
A pioneer in the realm of Poly reggae, Fiji’s music has entertained music lovers since the mid-’90s with hits such as Sweet Darlin’, Stone Cold and Ku’u Aloha.
With a chameleon-like voice easily suited to any genre, Fiji has explored a variety of genres through his own music and through his many collaborations with other Pasifika artists, and is considered the gold standard of collaborators by many of his Poly reggae peers.
Fiji has also worked with a number of high profile artists including Damien and Ziggy Marley, Maxi Priest, Gladys Knight and Aaron Neville.
The Fijian-born, Hawaiian-raised artist has also become a master of Pasifika languages, releasing a number of tracks in a variety of Pacific tongues including Samoan, Fijian, Hawaiian and Tongan.
On the evening of the PMAs, Fiji will be honoured with a tribute performance led by his long-time collaborators Brownhill, together with Wayno and Tomorrow People.
The 2021 Pacific Music Awards will broadcast live here on TP+, Saturday 11 December at 7pm.
