Olympic shot put Gold medalist Dame Valerie Adams is one of six international keynote speakers for this year’s International Working Group (IWG) World conference on Women and Sport set to take place in Auckland in November.
Other speakers confirmed include, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan, former executive of UN Women, Dr. Phumzille Mlambo-Ngcuka and New Zealand’s most decorated Paralympian Dame Sophie Pascoe.
The global sports leaders and activists join an action-packed core programme, that will hold more that 220 sessions and almost 500 speakers for what is described as the world’s largest gathering to advance gender equity and equality in sport and physical activity.
The four day event is fully interactive both in person and online, with live broadcast on the virtual platform. Pauline Harrison, chair of the IWG World Conference Steering committee says, “ to confirm speakers of this calibre is tremendous, our participants will enjoy unprecedented access during the event, due to our focus on collaboration, practical application & delivering solutions.”
The 8 th IWG World Conference on Women & Sport is built upon social learning principles, inspired by the storytelling and collaboration inherent to the indigenous Māori culture of New Zealand. Participants will explore five global themes through seven lenses. The aim is to bring the movement together as one, to drive equity further and faster in the future.
More than 1,200 global participants are expected to participate in person, with hundreds joining virtually. The event runs from the 14th-17th November.
