Former CEO for Ka’ute Pasifika is taking on a new challenge running for Mayor of Hamilton in the 2025 Local Body elections.

Leaupepe Rachel Karalus took to social media last week to announce her campaign. She will be running for Mayor as well as a candidate for Hamilton East.

Rachel released a statement and said, “I am ready to serve the people of Hamilton with integrity, pragmatism, and purpose. As a CEO and former lawyer, I’ve led major community developments and defended ratepayers during the height of the leaky building crisis. I understand risk, regulation, and turning vision into reality.”

Alongside her mother Leaupepe Peta Karalus, Rachel led the team at Ka’ute through the creation and build of the Fale Samoa that is situated in the heart of Hamilton and launched in early 2023.

Nominations for local body elections opened on July 4 and will be formally announced on August 1. Voting closes at 12 noon on October 11.
