Magnetic Pictures is proud to announce that its acclaimed documentary series K’ Road Chronicles and Breaking Silence both in their fourth and final seasons have received multiple nominations at the 2025 NZ Web Fest Awards, celebrating excellence in New Zealand digital storytelling.
The TP+ original series K’ Road Chronicles is nominated for Best Factual Series, Best Director (Ella Wells), Best Editor (Brendon Chan), and Best Host (Six). Breaking Silence has earned nominations for Best Director (Karen MacKenzie), Best Editor (Chris Davis), and Best Host (Simonne Butler).
K’ Road Chronicles offers a raw, compassionate look at life on Auckland’s Karangahape Road through the eyes of Six, a journalist and former rough sleeper. Breaking Silence, fronted by survivor Simonne Butler, tackles New Zealand’s high rates of domestic and family violence, highlighting survivors’ courage and the fight for social change.
Both series are funded by NZ On Air, whose continued support has brought underrepresented voices and vital stories to audiences across Aotearoa.
“These are not easy stories to tell, but they’re deeply important,” says Juanita Edwards, producer of Breaking Silence and co-founder of Magnetic Pictures. “This recognition honours the courage of those who share their lives with us.”
Brian Holland, producer of K’ Road Chronicles, adds “At their core, both series are about empathy and connection seeing the humanity behind every story.”
Magnetic Pictures extends thanks to TP+, the digital home of Tagata Pasifika, for its partnership and platform support.
“We’re really proud to have K’ Road Chronicles and Breaking Silence on TP+,” says Ngaire Fuata, TP+ founder. “These shows tell powerful, real stories that shine a light on different sides of our communities. They bring new voices and perspectives to our Pacific audience and help us connect with more people who see their own stories reflected on screen.”
Now in its 11th year, the NZ Web Fest continues to celebrate the best in online and digital content. Festival Director Keith Barclay says series like K’ Road Chronicles and Breaking Silence have helped establish New Zealand’s strong reputation for factual storytelling.
