The Manalagi Project has finally launched their health and wellbeing survey to help capture the experiences of Pacific Rainbow+ / MVPFAFF+ communities in Aotearoa.
The acronym MVPFAFF+ refers to the Pacific Rainbow identities; Mahu (Hawai’i and Tahiti), Vaka sa lewa lewa (Fiji), Palopa (Papua New Guinea) Fa’afafine (Samoa) Akava’ine (Rarotonga), Fakaleiti (Tonga), and Fakafifine (Niue)
The Manalagi Project is New Zealand’s first Pacific Rainbow+ Health and Wellbeing Project to be funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand. The survey aims to look at understanding the size of the Pasifika Rainbow+/ MVPFAFF+ communities, and identifying what’s working and what needs to be changed to help our communities thrive.
The survey, launched on February 21, will remain open until the end of August for anyone above the age of 15. Pacific Rainbow+ people and their families, friends and allies can take the survey.
There are two different sets of questions for each group – Pacific Rainbow+ and Families/Friends/Allies. Questions will cover your demographics, physical and mental health, wellbeing support systems and religion, spirituality and community, as well as your cultural identity.
The survey will take around 30-40mins to complete, depending on how much one wants to share.
The Manalagi Health and Wellbeing research team understands that some questions might cause distress to some participants. In which case questions can be left blank or skipped if participants do not wish to answer. If you want to take a break, you can return to the survey later as long as it’s before the end date of the survey.
For those completing the survey for Rainbow+ people, you are welcome to enter a prize draw to win 1 of 5 Manalagi Gift Packs and a $200 Countdown Gift Voucher.
