Pacific Media Network (PMN) and ABC International have joined forces to create a new initiative aimed at nurturing Pacific media talent.
As part of the partnership, ABC International will host an annual two-week work placement for a PMN broadcast journalist. The program, named “Sio ’atu” Tongan for “to look ahead, beyond the present towards possibilities” offers participants international exposure, advanced skills development, and networking opportunities within the ABC.
Don Mann, PMN CEO, said the placement will help build a stronger pipeline of Pacific media talent in New Zealand and bring new expertise back to the newsroom. Claire Gorman, Head of ABC International, added that the initiative empowers Pacific voices to tell their own stories while fostering professional growth and cultural exchange.
The Sio ’atu placements will be open to PMN journalists who demonstrate dedication to Pacific journalism, relevant experience, and potential for growth. ABC and PMN will review the partnership annually to ensure it continues to meet its goals and remains impactful.
