It’s no wonder Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is the largest Polynesian city in the world.

Eleven Pacific nations will be on show at the iconic Pasifika festival at Western Springs park on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 of March.

Pasifika people make up over 300,000 of Auckland’s population and festival organiser Faumuinā Jep Savali emphasises the importance of recognising the city’s unique cultures.

“It’s a chance to celebrate the diversity and creativity of our communities, while enhancing Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s reputation as a destination for unforgettable events”

Pasifika Festival is a world-class event that brings our colourful Pacific culture to the global stage,” Savali says.

The two-day free, family-friendly event attracts around 40,000 festival-goers each year who get to experience the richness of Pacific culture, language, and identity.

With over 1,000 performers who will perform a mix of indigenous and contemporary items, the festival promises to be a dazzling showcase of live music, dance, arts and crafts, traditional food, and hands-on cultural experiences.

Headline acts include the soulful melodies of renowned Sāmoan singer Vaniah Toloa and the high-energy choreography of the internationally acclaimed ‘The Royal Family’ dance crew.

New Zealand Poet Laureate Dr. Selina Tusitala Marsh will host interactive creative workshop ‘Mophead’, offering a deep dive into Pacific storytelling and identity.

Beyond the stage, the festival will also feature Sāmoan woodcarvers John Crouch and Jim Stretton who will run live demonstrations and workshops, displaying the richness of ancient carving, and providing attendees with an opportunity to connect with this timeless art form.

Even the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) located next door will join in as they will host Pasifika Vibes, a free Pacific-themed event at its Great North Road location. This will include interactive children’s games, ukulele lessons, Pacific-themed films, and cultural performances.

The annual festival is delivered by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited on behalf of Auckland Council and festival-goers are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and sunhats are also advised for a comfortable day out.

Auckland Transport recommends using its Journey Planner to ensure a stress-free experience. For more information, visit the Pasifika Festival website.
