Wellington Chocolate Factory is launching a new Samoa single-origin bar, the first in a permanent Pasifika collection celebrating South Pacific cocoa farmers.
WCF co-founder Gabe Davidson says the Samoan bar is the first of six that will complete the Pasifika collection, which will be released between now and 2027.
“Each single-origin bar will be more than just chocolate, it will be a connection to the land, people and traditions of the Pacific Islands.
“This first bar is a complete journey in a bite and true taste of Samoan terroir – starting with its warmth, followed by the jammy sweetness of Black Doris plum and a hint of an orange blossom. The final touch is burnt sugar that reminds you of caramel cooked over open flames. All of this is delivered in just the beans that are grown in Samoa’s rich volcanic soils,” he says.
Davidson says the Pasifika collection will celebrate Pacific cocoa while also contributing to the growth of local industries.
WCF’s Samoa Bar is available online and at its Eva Street Factory. To celebrate the launch, WCF will also serve traditional Koko Rice (or Koko Alaisa) and hot chocolate at Eva Street from October 2 to October 5.
