Pasifika women standing for the National Party are gearing up for the 2023 general elections to be held in October.

Joining Dr. Ruby Schaumkel who is contesting the Kelston seat is Angee Nicholas who has hit the ground running campaigning in the Te Atatū electorate and Rosemary Bourke who has been selected by the National Party to stand in Māngere.

Ms Bourke says, “ Māngere is my home and I’m honoured to have the opportunity to campaign for a National Government as National’s candidate. I’ll be working hard to meet as many people as I can to hear about their issues in the run-up to October 14.”

The top issue in Māngere is the cost-of-living crisis and fixing it will be a National Government’s key focus. The median rent in Auckland is almost $5,000 higher per year under Labour and people paying mortgages don’t know where they’re going to find hundreds of dollars more every week to cover their repayments as interest rates are hiked to try keep a lid on Labour’s inflation,” says Ms Bourke.

Te Atatū and Māngere are currently both held by Labour MPs Phil Twyford and Aupito William Sio. Auptio will retire at the end of the general election.
