Pacific dignitaries, leaders and representatives were in attendance at the State Funeral for Queen Elizabeth II yesterday.
Samoa’s Head of State Afioga i le Ao Mamalu o le Malo, Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II first paid tribute to the late monarch at Westminster Hall, together with his wife, Masiofo Faamausili Leinafo Tuimalealiifano.
Of the late monarch, Afioga i le Ao Mamalu o le Malo wrote, “Her Late Majesty visited Samoa in 1977 as part of the Silver Jubilee Pacific tour.”
“Her visit renewed links between Samoa and Britain, which we continue to enjoy today as a member of the Commonwealth family, and as equal partners in our development aspirations.”
“Her Late Majesty was unparalleled in her commitment to service, as well as her devotion to her people, country, her family and faith during her lifelong reign.”
The couple later attended a reception held at The Church House, home of the headquarters of the Church of England, where they signed the condolences book.
Other Pacific dignitaries included Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama and Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown. Both leaders were seated near Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern during the ceremony.
Also in attendance was HM King Tupou VI and Tongan High Commissioner to London Hon. Titilupe Fanetupouvava’u Tu’ivakano.
