
After months and days of non-stop back and forth between political candidates and supporters, Samoa can now breathe a sigh of relief as the 18th Parliament was officially sworn in today.
The Tuanaimato Multipurpose Gymnasium was packed with members of the public, as the swearing in ceremony took place.
FAST Party leader Laauliolemalietoa Leauatea Schimdt was also sworn in as new Prime Minister making him the 8th leader of the country.
Also being sworn in were all other successful candidates from each district, including official Ministers and Associate Ministers in the various portfolios.
The Head of State of Samoa, Tuimalealiifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II spoke at the swearing in acknowledging all those selected.He also extended his well wishes to Laauli and his newly selected cabinet for the next five years.
He reminded Samoa and those present at the ceremony the values of unity and forgiveness.
“It’s time to heal wounds, forgive and reconcile,” Tuimalealiifano said.
“Our canoe cannot move forward if each person paddles in a different direction. It is imperative that we paddle together for the good of our own people and the glory of our God and march forward together and serve in unity”
