New Zealand is stepping in to support Samoa as it faces a serious dengue outbreak that has claimed the lives of five children.
Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters says, “Samoa and New Zealand share a close bond, and we stand with them during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with the people of Samoa, and we’re doing all we can to help.”
New Zealand will:
- Send a medical team to Apia to provide clinical support and assess further needs
- Supply and fund $300,000 worth of essential medical supplies.
Senior New Zealand health officials remain in close contact with their Samoan counterparts.
Travellers to Samoa are urged to protect themselves from mosquito bites and follow dengue prevention advice available on the SafeTravel website.
