Newly sworn in Prime Minister of Samoa Laaulialemalietoa Polataivao Leautea Fosi Schmidt alongside his wife is in New Zealand for the week for medical treatment.
In a written statement released by the government of Samoa, the Prime Minister left on Sunday afternoon heading to Auckland.
Medical appointments were secured for the PM at the end of last week and Cabinet made the decision for him to travel.
The Prime Minister is entitled to fully government funded medical treatment while overseas in New Zealand, however given the state of Samoa’s current financial position, the Schmidt family are funding all expenses including airfares, accommodation and medical treatments.
The Prime Minister and newly elected members of Samoa parliament were sworn in last week.
