Crusaders and All Black Winger Sevu Reece will miss the rest of the rugby season after injuring his knee during the Crusaders win over the Blues at Eden Park.
The news was confirmed earlier this morning by Crusaders and future All Blacks coach Scott Robertson.
“Sevu’s out for the whole of the 2023 season” Robertson said. “He’s back in 2024”.
“We really feel for him. He’s been incredible for us. It’s a big loss”
“A lot of work will get him back to where he was beforehand, being a world class wing”
His injury adds up on the piling casualty ward for the team, who are currently coming off two great wins over Blues and Brumbies.
Also ruled out for six weeks due to a hamstring injury is blockbusting loose forward Ethan Blackadder.
The growing list of injuries for the defending champions include All Blacks lock Sam Whitelock (broken hand), midfielders David Havili (shoulder) and Jack Goodhue (groin), winger Will Jordan (vestibular) and loose forward Cullen Grace (shoulder).
Robertson remains positive, as he looks to dig deep into the depth of his squad. Newcomers Christian Lio Willie and Pepesana Patafilo will most likely step up and be expected to play more game minutes.
The Crusaders will travel to Brisbane to play the Reds on Friday night.
