“It’s a title you’ll now see in team namings, and it allows me to represent my family and my village of Vaiusu” – Seuseu Naitoa Ah Kuoi
It’s a new Super Rugby season for Chiefs forward Seuseu Naitoa Ah Kuoi, and he’s made some changes for the new year.
The 26-year-old was recently given the chiefly title of ‘Seuseu’ from the village of Vaiusu in Samoa, which he has proudly added to his name in the Chiefs team list.
“I recently received my title in my village Vaiusu called Seuseu; It means to catch or capture,” the big lock forward says.
“It was a big honour for my family and it wasn’t only me who received it, It was myself, my brothers and a couple of my uncles.
“It’s a title you’ll probably see now in team lists and team namings which is cool. It allows me to represent my family and village of Vaiusu.”

Seuseu and the Chiefs have made a good start to the new season of Super Rugby Pacific with a win over the Blues and Highlanders in the opening two rounds. In both games, Seuseu came off the bench.
The Chiefs edged out the Highlanders in an exciting 26-23 win on the road on the weekend while putting away the Blues at Eden Park in a hard-fought 15-19 win a week earlier.
They will face 2025 Champions Crusaders this coming weekend, which will be a repeat of last year’s final. But the Crusaders haven’t started the new season well, with two losses already from their opening two rounds including an uncharacteristic 50 – 24 thumping at the hands of the Brubbies at home.
This puts the Australia-based Brumbies at the top of the table with the Chiefs in third place after two rounds.
