As the curtain closes on yet another successful Netball World Cup tournament, our Pacific teams have achieved new heights showcasing their potential on the world stage.
Fiji and newcomers Tonga showed immense courage against the powerhouse nations of the tournament. In the end Fiji settled for 11th placing with Tonga landing a top ten spot at 8th overall.
Love was in the air for the Tonga Tala team as goal attack Marie Hansen was proposed to by her partner Brandon Payn. The romantic act took place after Tongas playoff match with Malawi. It was a beautiful way to end their campaign.
Commentators and fans were in awe of the special moment, which was later confirmed to be the first ever to happen on the World Netball stage.
Given that this was their first appearance at the World Cup, Tonga can hold their heads high and be proud of their achievements.
Placing second in their pool at the opening stages of the tournament, Tonga Tala only suffered a loss to world champions Australia in their three pool matches. Advancing onto the preliminary stages, Tonga Tala powered their way through to securing a 7/8th playoff match with Malawi.
Despite a close 54-64 loss to Malawi, Tonga had done enough to make a statement. Tonga will remain in the 7th place standing on the current world rankings.
