“He just said, we don’t see you in the future in the club, we are going to go in a different direction. That was the only explanation” Terrell May.

After impressing in this year’s NRL season for the Sydney Roosters, Terrell May will no longer be part of the club for 2025.

The shocking move from the club circulated a lot of questions from fans, which then resulted in different rumours and scenarios being thrown around on May’s sudden omission from the club.

The 25 year old recently was on The Bye Round podcast, where he opened up about being cut from the side including the phone call with head coach Trent Robinson.

“It was a strange one aye. Nothing was even said or mentioned like during the whole year” May said.

“Getting a phone call like two days before our second game against England. Getting that call from Robbo (Robinson) I was just thinking of all the good things that could possibly be said”

“But then to get the call and realise it was a total 180 of what I thought it was going to be, like it was a total shock. I didn’t digest it till like a week later”

“I wanted to know the reason, but the reason I got just did not add up”

The phone call between Robinson and May is what he described on the podcast as a “two minute phone call” which left him clueless on the sudden axing.

“He just said, we don’t see you in the future in the club, we are going to go in a different direction. That was the only explanation”

“For everything I have done for this club, I know you guys have done a lot for me, but I didn’t even get a farewell, or any of that. I just got that two minute phone call”

As he departs the Roosters for 2025, May is now ready to embark on his new journey with new club West Tigers.

He joins in a number of new signings at the club which include his Toa Samoa teammates Jarome Luai and Royce Hunt.

The club have gone for three years straight now as the “wooden spooners” of the tournament with hopes now its new inclusions can spark a new and more improved change in the side.

“Obviously I’m at the Tigers now, who are a club that wants me. I want to be the one that steps up and leads the team out there”

“Whether that’s through the one percenters or being that guy that gives teams troubles and has teams coming after him”
