Melbourne Storm snatched a famous win over the Warriors with PNG Kumul winger Xavier Coates scoring in the dying seconds in emphatic style.
The 23 year old crossed over in the corner, after leaping over Warriors wing Dallin Watene Zelezniak and dotting down the ball before stumbling over the touch line.
It was a sour end for the Warriors who had come back from a deficit at halftime before Coates crossed over for the winner in the late stages of the match.’
The try was viewed by NRL fans across the globe and was noted by many as a notable nominee for try of the year.
Storm are now 2 from 2 so far after an impressive win in round one over defending champs Penrith Panthers.
SUPER RUGBY PACIFIC: Moana Pasifika on track for best season record so far
Moana Pasifika defeated Western Force last Saturday notching up their second win of the season.
It’s a big achievement for the club who have struggled to go above two wins or more in a season since joining the competition in 2022.
Moana put in a total of three tries with man of the match Kyran Taumoefolau also dotting down in his first start of the season.
“Just really happy with the efforts,” said captain Sione Havili Talitui.
“We knew we had to stay in it for 80 minutes. I’m so proud of the effort of the boys and can’t wait to celebrate it.”
SUPER RUGBY PACIFIC: From concrete mixing to Super Rugby debut.
Jay Fonokalafi made his Super Rugby Pacific debut on Saturday night for the Waratahs. But it was only a few days earlier he was covered in concrete dust working in his day job as a concrete mixer.
“I was just at work,” Fonokalafi said.
“We had just finished pouring cement and then one of the managers rocked up and just said to have my phone with me”
“I was just shocked and really excited to tell my parents when I got the call”
“I was lost, I forgot what I was doing. And just getting the news, honestly, I just didn’t even know what was going on. I think the boys were like ‘get back to work’; that kind of thing brings you back down to earth”
The hooker has played four international tests for Tonga and had a stint in the ITM for North Harbour.
Despite losing to the Blues, Fonokalafi dotted down for a try in his debut.
Ardie Savea collaborates with ASICS to lace up signature rugby boot
All Black Ardie Savea has revealed his new designed rugby boot with footwear brand ASICS on Sunday afternoon.
Named The Voyager Pack as an ode to the pacific ancestors who voyaged the seas, the reveal was made on both Savea’s and ASICS instagram accounts.
“I see the boots as my boat and the waters I am navigating, which is the rugby field,” Savea said.
“I know it’s just a rugby boot but there is more. It’s deep. It represents my family and the people back in the islands and Samoa.
The boots will go on sale from the 22nd of March.
