The 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season kicks off this weekend with a rematch of last year’s final as the opening match for the year.

Chiefs forward Naitoa Ah Kuoi will run onto the pitch against the Crusaders celebrating his 50th match. After his debut for the Chiefs in 2020, Ah Kuoi has grown over the past years cementing himself as a core member of their squad.

A beast on the field, he is also known for his charismatic personality and positive vibes. His efforts was also rewarded last season with an inclusion in the All Blacks XV squad.

“It’s pretty cool man and I am very grateful”! Ah Kuoi said when reflecting on his career.

“I remember coming into the club and seeing the faces of the people who hit 50 games and thought man, imagine doing that. So yeah it is a huge milestone for me and the people who have supported me on my rugby journey”.

Also celebrating their 50th match appearances is Caleb Clarke and Angus Ta’avao for the Blues. Their first match up will be against the Fijian Drua on Saturday afternoon.

Ta’avao gives thanks on reaching the milestone. “It’s cool, this is the club I looked up to when I was younger. I’m an Auckland boy born and bred and I wanted to play for the Blues as a young kid. My family has put up with a lot for me to be here, I wouldn’t be here without them.”

Ta’avao adds, “You walk in and it’s like family, there’s smiles and laughter but that’s coupled with hard work and I think that balance is crucial and it’s something we’re looking to nail.”
