Talanoa: Denial of Vine St liquor licence a win for Māngere – Shirl’e Fruean

Community advocates in South Auckland have been celebrating a small victory this week following the denial of a liquor license to an outlet in Māngere East. In an area with the highest density of off-license liquor outlets in Auckland, it’s a small but significant step in the community’s efforts to reduce the harm alcohol consumption causes. Māngere hip hop artist and community advocate Shirl’e Fruean aka Queen Shirl’e says she’s proud of her community for standing up.
