After months of political instability, Samoa’s 17th parliamentary term has officially ended. It comes amid the failure of the minority government led by prime minister Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa to pass their budget in the House last week.

There were high hopes for the new government that ousted the long-standing Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) government, which had been in power for more than 30 years. But after being removed from the FAST party and surviving two votes of no confidence, Fiamē has not been able to complete her five year term as Samoa’s first woman prime minister.
