It seems Aorere College student Aigagalefili Fepulea‘i-Tapua’i was made for leadership. The proud Pasifika teen from South Auckland is a published poet, actor, co-head prefect, New Zealand Storytellers Champion and Co-Founder of 4TK, an indigenous environmentalist group committed to fighting climate change — quite an impressive list of achievements for so young a person.

To add to that ever-growing list, the 17-year-old was recently selected to represent New Zealand at the Global Young Leaders Conference in June. The conference, held in Washington DC and New York, will see youths from around the world coming together to hone their leadership skills and learn from global-issues leaders.

A Givealittle page has been set up to raise funds for this once-in-a-lifetime experience, and Fepulea‘i-Tapua’i plans to voice the issues of her people and her community at the conference. On the page she says, “I recognise that through this conference, I have the responsibility to be a vessel for perspectives from New Zealand – Pasifika, indigenous, South Auckland, low socio-economic views – that don’t get heard from on a world stage.”
