New Zealand’s best high school basketball players will go head to head this Thursday 22 July at Walter Nash Stadium, Lower Hutt in the 4th Annual Steven Adams High School Invitational (SAHSI).
Championed by Kiwi-Tongan basketball legend Steven Adams, the All Star game will be live streamed on the Steven Adams Camps YouTube channel from 3pm and feature commentary in both Samoan and Tongan.
PMN Samoa radio hosts Lorenzo Kaisara and Savea Tone Peseta will provide the Samoan commentary. Isaac Fotu, father of NZ professional basketball players Isaac and Dan Fotu, and former rugby athlete Caroline Matamua will provide the Tongan commentary.
The games will also have te reo Māori commentary led by Zeb Nicklin.
SAHSI is an initiative of Steven Adams Camps run by Sports Pathways Trust – a New Zealand charity that builds sporting pathways for student athletes. Each year Steven Adams invites 4o top student athletes to a free working camp with top mentors and coaches, culminating in a game day.
“Pathways are excited to work with Spalk and broadcast the All Star game in Tongan and Samoan,” says Sports Pathways Trust Trustee Dillon Boucher.
“We’re all about growing the exposure for these athletes and basketball. We see this is an awesome opportunity to reach fans, parents and supporters in their language and to show off the best NZ has to offer!”
