Raised in Grey Lynn, Diggy Dupé wraps up a successful year of music with the release of his new EP HUES. In 2022, the Niuean rapper took out two Pacific Music Awards, a Silver Scroll Award and two Aotearoa Music Awards for his work on The Panthers Original Soundtrack.

His new body of work is about the idea of the creative journey rather than the end result. Through the six tracks, Dupé uses thoughtful rap lyricism to speak his own truth.

“HUES is about a connection between colour, sound and emotion. HUES is a process-driven EP. I’ve named this tape HUES due to the colours and shades I would visualise for each song. Unlike previous projects which relied heavily on the subject matter and overall themes, this tape is more focused on the journey.”

Dupé is a visual fine arts student and has always been around colour, art, graffiti and creativity, so this specific background has helped him visualize exactly what he wanted for HUES. Each track also has its own distinct artwork created by Askew One, adding value to the overall theme.

Produced by Haz Beats (Homebrew, Team Dynamite), HUES features local R&B artist Sam V on ‘Got Mine’ and South Auckland rapper Lukan Rai$ey on ‘European Dreams’.

HUES by Diggy Dupé is out now.
