Fijian-New Zealand educator Dr Tarisi Vunidilo is the author of a new bilingual book aimed at younger readers.
The book is called ‘Fiji-Viti’ and offers an insight into Fijian society, geography, legends, arts, history and more.
The book is the newest addition to publisher Aotearoa Books’ Moana Oceania series, which reflects back to Pasifika.
Readers will learn about daily life in the islands, the values of its people, and how families live and celebrate. A section is dedicated to Fijians in New Zealand and how they stay connected to and celebrate their culture in Aotearoa.
This and other books in the series contribute to the use of indigenous languages and ‘Fiji – Viti’ will be available in bookstores from just before Fijian Language Week, which runs from 6–12 October 2024.
