Feature documentary Tenor: My Name Is Pati has surpassed $1 million at the New Zealand box office, cementing its place among the country’s most successful local documentaries.
Directed by Rebecca Tansley, the film follows internationally acclaimed Samoan tenor Pene Pati and his brother Amitai Pati (of Sol3 Mio), tracing their journey from Samoa and South Auckland to the world’s leading opera stages.
After one of the strongest opening weeks for a New Zealand film this year, the documentary has continued to draw audiences nationwide, fuelled by word of mouth and strong community support particularly from Pasifika audiences.
The film now joins the ranks of top-grossing local documentaries, alongside The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls, Poi E: The Story of Our Song, and Richie McCaw: Chasing Great.
Tenor: My Name Is Pati is produced by Minerva Productions with the support of New Zealand Film Commission Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga, in association with Mercury Studios and in co-production with ZDF for ARTE. It is produced by Tansley, alongside co-producer Catherine Madigan and Executive Producer Taualeo’o Stephen Stehlin.
Now screening in cinemas nationwide.
