Pacific culture was front and centre at the world premiere of Disney’s live-action Moana, with cast, filmmakers and guests gathering at the Hollywood Bowl to celebrate the film ahead of its theatrical release.
The evening opened with a cultural welcome from the Nonosina dancers, honouring the Pacific traditions and heritage that have shaped Moana since its beginning.
Stars Dwayne Johnson (Maui) and Catherine Lagaʻaia (Moana) later joined the ceremony, acknowledging the deep cultural connections at the heart of the story.
Following the ceremony, conductor Sarah Hicks led the LA Philharmonic in a live performance of the film’s score as audiences watched the premiere screening, creating a unique live-to-film experience before the night concluded with a fireworks display over the Hollywood Bowl.
The event was attended by Pacific cast members Rena Owen (Gramma Tala), John Tui (Chief Tui) and Frankie Adams (Sina), alongside producers, filmmakers and members of the film’s Cultural Trust, recognising the many Pacific creatives who helped bring the story to life.
The celebration also marked a milestone for Johnson, who surpassed 200 Make-A-Wish wishes granted worldwide after fulfilling eight wishes during the event. He has supported the organisation for more than 25 years.
Disney’s live-action Moana arrives exclusively in cinemas on 10 July 2026.
