The New Zealand Olympic Committee has named a nine-member team, made up entirely of weightlifters, to compete at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau from June 29 to July 9.
Leading the team is two-time Olympian and Commonwealth Games medalist David Liti, who will compete in the men’s +110kg category, bringing valuable experience to the group.
Weightlifting New Zealand President Simon Kent expressed excitement about the team’s potential, noting the benefit of Liti’s inclusion.
“With a decade of international experience, David’s presence will be a valuable asset to the group as they navigate being part of a multi-sport event,” said Kent.
The event is an important step for athletes aiming to qualify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with competitions across the Commonwealth playing a key role in rankings.
New Zealand Olympic Committee CEO Nicki Nicol also voiced support for the team, especially those representing New Zealand for the first time, and wished them success in Palau.
