After being victorious over the Hurricanes, Moana Pasifika were brought back to reality after falling short to the Blues in their two hit outs last week. As they set out for their next game against the Highlanders, head coach Aaron Mauger has pushed the reset button ahead of their preparations.
“Regardless of the performance, we’ve just got to highlight the key areas that are important for us that are going to help us grow in that week”
“It’s been good and our boys are pretty grounded. We have been able to reset through our lotus (devotions), pese’s (hymns) and focus on what’s important on our schedule”
The burning question from the Blues match was the state of winger Tomasi Alosio who was taken off field after a collision with Blues player Caleb Clarke. Mauger addressed the media that Alosio is recovering well and is showing great signs of recovery.
“It was unfortunate with Tomasi’s incident. There certainly was no malice or intent and I think it was handled fairly on field. He bounced back fine and has been good since and is going through his ten day stand down”
Blues winger Caleb Clarke copped a red card and is now faced with a 3 match ban. Mauger has made it clear that he has contacted Blues staff and management and that Moana has no ill intentions towards them in relation to the incident.
Tomorrow night’s clash in Dunedin will be a homecoming for Mauger the former Highlanders coach and a long awaited reunion with his family.
“Excited as my family’s there. Get to spend a couple of nights in my bed which I haven’t slept in since January”
“Looking forward to waking up and having breakfast with my kids and just being a dad at home for a couple of days.”
Mauger has rolled out a strong team to face the Highlanders, with the return of the midfield partnering of Levi Aumua and Danny Toala who were instrumental in the win against Hurricanes.
Fijian speedster Timoci Tamatamanawai also remains in his spot at wing after an impressive debut against the Blues. Sekope Kepu will once again lead the team at Forsyth Barr Stadium tomorrow night.
Kick off is scheduled for 7:05pm.
