Award winning Pacific musician artist wins at Taite Music Awards 2024

Award winning musician, artist Teremoana Rapley was recognised for her contribution to the  New Zealand music scene winning at the Taite Music Awards 2024 held earlier this week in Auckland. 

The awards celebrate outstanding New Zealand albums released in the previous calendar year as well as showcase local talent across genres. Also included in this year’s categories was NZ On Air Outstanding Music Journalism award. 

So’omalo Iteni Schwalger, presenter of the Tahi on RNZ was a finalist for Outstanding Music Journalism for his in-depth review of Mokomakai’s album Whakarehu on RNZ’s The Sampler.

Having twice been a recipient of the Taita Music Prize (for classic album) when she was part of the Upper Hutt Posse in 2016 and with Moana and the Moahunters in 2019, Teremoana received The Independent Spirit Award. 

The musician was recognised for her long standing contributions to music and advocacy for Pacific artists. Presenting her award on the night was Brown Boy Magik, who had nothing but praise for his mentor stating, “she’s inspired a whole generation of artists, she’s built worlds, her music is a testament to Pacifica storytelling.”

Teremoana is a veteran of the music industry and has been inducted into the Aotearoa Music Hall of Fame. She became a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to music and television.
