Opera sensations Sol3 Mio to give back to Pasifika youth

Pasifika youth groups in the Whanganui region will be in for a treat this month when award-winning New Zealand Opera trio Sol3 Mio graces the stage in an exclusive event.

Talanoa with Sol3 Mio – Our Barriers, Our Pasifika – will have brothers Amitai and Pene Pati along with Moses McKay talking to youth groups  on topics concerning cultural identity, the importance of education and mental health.

Pasifika Community connector and registered Nurse William Pati says, involving the trio was important because of their success in education which led to prosperous careers in music both here and overseas.

“Sharing their experience of being Pasifika in the open world; how it was for them to leave home, how did they overcome any challenges to their mental health?” William says.

“It’s the  start of the schooling year, this event will hopefully give the prep talk some of the youth need to help them throughout the year.

“To give a perspective to our young ones about the importance of education or learning something or having goals in life, focusing on lifting our Pasifika youth levels of connectedness, exploring to find their identity, their culture.”

The talanoa will be held on Friday 3rd February at 6pm, at the Faith City Church, Whanganui. The event is free but registration is essential as there are only 250 seats available.
